Digital Media Sector in Ireland

Digital Media has been described as ‘intellectual property encoded in a way which enables that content to be managed, stored and distributed across multiple platforms’. Digital Media companies are involved in the creation of content for consumers in the entertainment, education, corporate and public service sectors. Core areas of activity within the Digital Media industry are:

  • Media Software & Technologies
  • Film and TV Production/Post Production
  • Computer Animation and Graphics
  • Special Effects

  • Broadcast & Distribution
  • Online Publishing and Advertising
  • Data & Content Management
  • Computer, Internet and Wireless Games & Technologies

There are a number of early Irish entrants to the digital space, many of whom have been supported by Enterprise Ireland. Quite a few have emerged from traditional media activities in film and film services by the adoption of digital technologies and through the digital convergence process. Others are new enterprises born out of the new opportunities in digital media, often introducing new technologies and innovations.
